Το Sex and the City Επιστρέφει – Πως η Εποχή της Πανδημίας Επηρεάζει το Στυλ του

Η επιστροφή της θρυλικής σειράς “Sex and the City”, 11 χρόνια μετά την δεύτερη ταινία του franchise, είναι γεγονός και τα γυρίσματα έχουν ξεκινήσει. Μια περιήγηση στο Instagram αρκεί για να βρούμε χιλιάδες φωτογραφίες της Sarah Jessica Parker ως Carrie Bradshaw στους δρόμους της Νέας Υόρκης . Πολλά πράγματα φαίνεται να έχουν αλλάξει, με πρώτο και καλύτερο την απουσία της εκρηκτικής Kim Catrall ως Samantha Jones, αλλά και τον τίτλο, αφού η σειρά πλέον θα ονομάζεται “And Just Like That”. Αυτό όμως που προκαλεί τη μεγαλύτερη δυσαρέσκεια στους fan είναι αναμφίβολα η γκαρνταρόμπα της Carrie!
Δεν μπορούμε παρά να αναρωτηθούμε λοιπόν, πως έχει επηρεάσει η εποχή που ζούμε τη σειρά αυτή, τα γυναικεία ρούχα και τη μόδα γενικότερα;

Από την μετάδοση του πρώτου κιόλας επεισοδίου, το 1998, η σειρά αποτέλεσε ωδή στη glamorous μόδα των 00s και στιλιστική έμπνευση για χιλιάδες γυναίκες ανά τον κόσμο. Στο τιμόνι του styling ήταν η Patricia Field συνδυάζοντας τα πάντα από τα πιο μοδάτα γυναικεία ρούχα μέχρι κομμάτια από second-hand μαγαζιά. Όλα βέβαια πασπαλισμένα με μια δόση glitter και υπερβολής…

Επιστροφή στην απλότητα
Η Sarah Jessica δήλωσε εξαρχής πως η νέα σειρά θα αντικατοπτρίζει την εποχή που ζούμε, έχοντας και αναφορές στην πανδημία, πράγμα που είναι εμφανές στα περισσότερα looks της ως τώρα. Με ελάχιστες εξαιρέσεις, η Carrie Bradshaw φαίνεται να έχει αφήσει πίσω της τα γυναικεία ρούχα, τσάντες και παπούτσια με φαντεζί designer ετικέτες. Οι τσάντες αντί για Gucci και Prada γράφουν πάνω WNYC, ακόμη όμως και τα designer κομμάτια που φοράει – όπως η αγαπημένη της iconic τσάντα Fendi Baguette – τα έχουμε ξαναδεί στο παρελθόν, τονίζοντας έτσι την αξία της επένδυσης σε αυτά.

Επιπλέον, λόγω της πανδημίας περάσαμε πολύ χρόνο στο σπίτι, οπότε η ανάγκη για άνετα γυναικεία ρούχα έγινε επιτακτική, ενώ η επιθυμία για στενά φορέματα και πανύψηλα τακούνια μπήκε σε δεύτερο πλάνο. Ίσως για αυτό και η Carrie έχει ανταλλάξει τα αποκαλυπτικά της ρούχα για πιο αέρινες γραμμές και σχέδια.
Κάποιοι βιάστηκαν να πουν ότι το εγχείρημα δεν θα πετύχει και πως εκείνη που βλέπουν στα γυρίσματα, πολύ απλά, δεν είναι η Carrie Bradshaw, αγνοώντας την εξέλιξη του χαρακτήρα. Θα λέγαμε όμως πως η Carrie σήμερα αντικατοπτρίζει τέλεια την εποχή και συμβαδίζει μαζί της χωρίς να δείχνει παράταιρη, διατηρώντας ταυτόχρονα την σωστή δόση λάμψης. Ανυπομονούμε να τη δούμε ξανά στις οθόνες μας!

Sex and the City Returns – How the Age of the Pandemic Affects its Style

The return of the legendary Sex and the City series, 11 years after the second film in the franchise, is a fact and filming has begun. All it takes is a scroll through Instagram to find thousands of photos of Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw on the streets of New York City. Many things seem to have changed, first and foremost the absence of the fabulous Kim Catrall as Samantha Jones, but also the title, as the series will now be called “And Just Like That”. However, the thing that is causing the most fan dissatisfaction is undoubtedly Carrie’s wardrobe!
So we couldn’t help but wonder, how has the current era affected this series, women’s clothing and fashion in general?
Since the very first episode aired in 1998, the show has been an ode to the glamorous fashion of the 00s and a style inspiration for thousands of women around the world. At the styling helm was Patricia Field combining everything from the most fashionable women’s clothing to pieces from second-hand stores. All sprinkled with a dose of glitter and extravagance, of course…

Back to simplicity
Sarah Jessica stated right from the start that the new series will reflect the times we live in, including references to the pandemic, which is evident in most of her looks so far. With very few exceptions, Carrie Bradshaw seems to have left behind women’s clothing, bags and shoes with fancy designer labels. Her handbags read WNYC instead of Gucci and Prada, but even the designer pieces she wears – such as her favorite iconic Fendi Baguette – have been seen before, emphasizing the value of investing in them.
Plus, because of the pandemic, we spent a lot of time at home, so the need for comfortable women’s clothing became imperative, while the desire for tight dresses and towering heels became a secondary consideration. Perhaps that’s why Carrie has traded in her revealing outfits for more demure lines and designs.
Some were quick to say that the project won’t work and that the person they see on set is, quite simply, not Carrie Bradshaw, ignoring any character development. We would say though that Carrie today perfectly reflects the era and keeps up with it without looking out of place, while maintaining the right amount of sparkle. We can’t wait to see her on our screens again!
